Description

Sakurao 3 Years 2019 Whisky Magazine IB Collection Hua Yang Whisky

Introducing the Sakurao 3 Years 2019 Whisky, part of the exclusive Whisky Magazine IB Japanese Craft Whiskey Series, a collaboration between independent bottler Hua Yang and Whisky Magazine. Released in 2022 alongside a Chichibu 7 Years and a Yuza 7 Years, this expression from Sakurao Distillery showcases a whisky that is both young and full of character. Founded in 2017 in Hiroshima Prefecture, Sakurao Distillery merges tradition with innovation, benefiting from two distinct climates: warm coastal breezes from the sea and cold winds from the mountains, which contribute to the whisky’s complexity. This particular bottling was distilled in 2019 and aged in bourbon casks before being bottled in 2023 at a robust 62.30% ABV.

Production details: Distilled in 2019 and matured for three years in bourbon barrels, this Sakurao expression harnesses the natural influences of Hiroshima’s unique climate. The combination of sea breezes and mountain air infuses the whisky with a wide-ranging aromatic profile. Non-peated and aged in ex-bourbon casks, this whisky is unfiltered and bottled at cask strength, delivering an intense and dynamic tasting experience with a coastal edge.

Serving suggestions: Best enjoyed neat for those who appreciate the intensity of cask strength, or with a few drops of water to open up the complex maritime notes. This whisky pairs beautifully with seafood dishes, particularly smoked or salted fish, or with savory snacks like seaweed crisps, which complement its salty and coastal character.

Additional information: Released as part of a limited series, the Sakurao 3 Years Whisky is a rare find, particularly at its high ABV. With its unique coastal influences and bold flavor profile, this whisky is a must-try for collectors and enthusiasts of Japanese craft whisky looking to explore something different from the typical Japanese styles.
