A Very Fine Liqueur Brandy from 1960: Martell Cordon Argent

We’ve come across an unusual bottle of Martell Cognac, which is reserved for the most refined of collectors. This bottle of Martell Cordon Argent was bottled in 1960, and is a terrific Cognac. It truly showcases the blending mastery of the Martell house.

‘Argent’ means silver in French, and this Cognac, which reaches back over 60 years is in every way a precious bottle. Typically, the Martell Cordon Argent was created for the US market to showcase the fine blending power of Cognac.

It has been concocted drawing eaux-de-vie from the house’s Paradis cellar, which contains many eaux-de-vie reaching hundreds of years in age. We reckon this bottle could very well contain 19th-century eaux-de-vie judging by the age and quality.

This bottle of Martell Cordon Argent qualifies as an Extra Cognac, and is made up of a beautiful symphony of eaux-de-vie with a large number from the highly sought-after Borderies cru.

Expect a rich Cognac with plenty of depth, yet with elegant nuances and texture.

Story of the bottle

The owner of this bottle has stored it in the basement, and it was acquired upon the liquidation of an estate. The bottle was originally sold by a US distributor in New York.

Presentation of the bottle

Part of the wax stamp on the side of the bottle has worn off, other than that it is new and unopened. We adore this older style of Martell labeling. The traditional blue and white color scheme will look wonderful on display, and its aged effect also adds to its charm.
